The Best Of The Week: Week 0 Edition



We just witnessed week 2 of the Middle School season. While the high school meets start this week, we want to take some time to review the best of last week's middle school meets.


St. Jude Hokum Karem

A unique relay cross meet sees a team of two complete 3 miles in total. On the boys side, Mossville's Caleb Waldschmidt and Brody Miller got the duo win in 16:15. Behind them was El Paso-Gridley's duo of Russell Erwin and Alex Lartz who ran 16:25. El Paso-Gridley got the team win scoring 28 points. Limestone took 2nd with a score of 34 as they barely edged out the host St. Jude who scored 35.


On the girls side it was Mossville again getting the duo win in 17:36 with the team of Alannah Fahrenkrug and Elleigh Grochowsky. Whitney Parker and Audrey Dickinson of Illini Bluffs took 2nd in 17:39 just barely getting edged out. Mossville got the overall team win with a score of 21. Elmwood took 2nd with 33 points and Limestone took 3rd with 35 points.


Bruin Twilight

This meet saw some of the best individual boys across the state compete with Zac Wright of Taylorville getting the win in 11:50. Calvin Armbrust of Springfield Our Savior's Lutheran took 2nd in 11:57 and Jax Barton of Glenwood taking 3rd in 12:03. Glenwood won the team battle with a score of 62 points and Springfield Christian took 2nd with 77 points.


On the girls side Phoebe DeFrain dominated the individual race with a time of 12:41. She won by over a minute. Springfield Blessed Sacrament dominated the team race with a score of 33 points with Glenwood taking 2nd with a score of 69 points.


Dixon Rectangular XC Invite

This meet was a great showing for the Dixon Reagan squad. Ethan Carter of Reagan got the individual win running away from the field in 10:56. His Dixon Distance TC teammate Bentlee Lawrenz took 2nd in 11:30. He represents Rock Falls during the season. Reagan also got the team win scoring 29 points with Sycamore scoring 71 for 2nd.


On the girls side Chloe Shere of Sycamore got the individual win in 13:12 as she barely edged out Brinley Davis of Dixon Reagan who ran 13:16. Reagan also got the team win as well with a score of 22 points over Sycamore who scored 39 points.


Saber Corn Invite

This meet groups their races by 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders for a unique meet to start the year. The fastest of the day on the boys side was in the 7th grade race with Samuel Garrison of Champaign Edison winning in 11:19. The next fastest time of the day was in the 8th grade race with Max Ahmari of Champaign St. Matthew winning in 11:33 and won by only .2 of a second over Leonardo Triveno of Normal Epiphany. Downs Tri-Valley looked to be the best boys team performer of the meet.


On the girls side it was a clinic by the best girls team in the state Shelbyville Moulton. They went 1-2-3 in the 8th grade division with Leah Shoaff running the fastest time of the day to win in 12:16. Hazel Atkins of Shelbyville ran the 2nd fastest time of the day with a mark of 12:18 in the 7th grade race. Moulton had 4 runners under 13:05.


Sangamo Early Season Preview

On the boys side Ryan Patrick of Williamsville got the win over Keegan O'Brien of Maroa-Forsyth running 11:23 to 11:39. Williamsville got the team win with a score of 46 points PORTA took 2nd with 63 points.


On the girls side it was Milli Rebbe of Stanford Olympia getting the individual win in 12:41. Athens got the team win with 28 points and Pleasant Plains took 2nd with 37 points.


Tom Koonce Redbird Invite

On the boys side Morton took the team battle by a landslide with a score of 41 points. Dunlap Valley took 2nd with 126 pints as they just edged out Bloomington who had 135 points. Owen Riesberg of Morton won the individual race with a time of 11:36. Luke Geyer of Morton was 2nd 40 seconds back of his teammate.


On the girls side it was Morton winning the team battle as well with a score of 59 points. Metamora was 2nd with a score of 98 and Mossville was 3rd with 114 points. Lorelei Hulsing of Bloomington took the win in 13:05. Bailey Salzer of Mackinaw Dee-Mack was 2nd in 13:27 and Elsie Parnham of Morton was 3rd in 13:40. Elleigh Grochowsky of Mossville was just outside the top 3 in 13:44.
